“My wife told me to get her any jewelry at Flying Crane and I couldn’t go wrong. That’s a relief for a husband.”
~Garret Rhoads Colorado Springs, CO
“I overheard someone talking about Flying Crane at a neighboring table while my husband and I were eating out one night in Breckenridge. This lady was so happy about her experience that she was almost gloating about what she called her “discovery”. As a matter of fact, she was speaking so highly of the store that I just couldn’t believe it without seeing for myself. I resolved to visit the store the next day. First I went to Breckenridge and then I went to the Frisco store. Now I understand why she was so excited.
Flying Crane has an Asian feel to it, but it’s not an import type store. It’s Asian in an American style way—much like in the style of the architectural designs of Frank Lloyd Wright, (whose well known influence was primarily Japanese). All of her styles of décor, clothing, jewelry and gifts fit perfectly into American décor and clothing styles.
The store is filled with Asian-influenced items that are made in either America or Japan for the most part. I did notice some vases made in Malaysia and some jewelry boxes made in Vietnam. Their famous robes, as I understand it, are hand made in the mountain resort town, DaLat in Vietnam.
Everything is very high quality and the prices are reasonable. The clothes in the Frisco store are more geared towards women over 40 with jackets, robes, scarves and parkas. The clothes in the Breckenridge store are mostly for younger women—they are licensed to carry Gwen Stefani’s line of clothing, Harajuku, “A Fatal Attraction to Cuteness” which the younger girls just adore. She departs slightly from her Asian theme with her ultra sexy line of Brazilian clothes. Some clothes in the Breckenridge store are for 40+.
She has a nice mix of small home décor; things like table lamps and table runners and gifts like sushi and sake sets. Overall her selection kept me interested and pleased. I circled the store at least three times, finding new things each time. (It really stirred my creative juices for gifts for friends and family and ideas for decorating my home flowed as well.)
This store is great for clothes and for accessories like hats and scarves. The jewelry is not precious stones but more museum quality with freshwater pearl, gold and silver—no diamonds. The jewelry is mostly Japanese influenced. She also offers a pretty good selection of jade and if you ask for higher end, she brings out a box with a selection of pricier jade.
Most notably is the “feeling” you get in her stores. I was greeted with smiles from the staff and then offered a delicious tea to sip as I shopped. The store really flowed with exciting items and personable people. In a day and age where shopping experiences are generic and stale for the most part, Flying Crane really pops! As far as boutiques go, this is the best I’ve ever been in. (I have to say I love to shop boutiques and I’ve been in hundreds all over America and Europe too for that matter.) I’m so glad I overheard that woman talking about Flying Crane that night at dinner!”

“There used to be a store in upper Manhattan just like this when I was growing up. It was owned by the sweetest Japanese man who had so many darling things. When I walked into your store that wonderful scent and those gorgeous designs and those pretty clothes took me back to those times when I would walk into that shop with my mom as a little girl. I’ve rediscovered my love for the subtle, earthy colors and delicate lines of Japanese style!”
